Description
Learn to Make Cold Process Soap
In this Homestead Soapmaking Workshop, you’ll make two batches (10-12 bars) of handmade soap using pure oils, natural fragrances, natural colours, and dried flowers and botanicals. The ingredients we’ll focus on are those you can harvest from your homestead, including herbs, honey, beeswax, goat’s milk, and tallow. Though you will use a modern cold process soapmaking method, you will also learn about how soap used to be made in the past.
Each workshop can accommodate up to nine people, making for a small, fun, and creative group. After the class, you’ll take your soap home, cure it, and be on your way to being self-sufficient in cold-process soapmaking.
Make Two Batches of Homestead Soap
The workshop begins with an introduction to cold-process soapmaking and a tour of the different stations in the room. You will then make a batch of homemade tallow and goat’s milk soap, scenting and decorating it with your choice of essential oils, colourants, and botanicals. Afterward, there’s a short 10-minute break before you make your second batch, a gorgeous, caramel-scented soap made with Manx honey and beeswax.
This workshop is brand new and will follow a similar format to the established Lovely Greens Soapmaking Workshop, which focuses on vegan ingredients. You can read its reviews to get a feeling for what the Homestead Soapmaking Workshop will be like.
