Calendula is a golden flower that is used in herbal treatments for skin but is also safe enough to be used as an edible flower. Studies have shown that using extracts of the flower petals helps speed up the healing of wounds and burns – read more about that here. The petals also give this balm a lovely golden colour.
The beeswax in this balm comes from my own hives as well as those of other small-scale beekeepers on the Isle of Man. None of the hives are treated with chemicals and the bees live happy and healthy lives.
Shea Butter is a highly moisturising oil that restores elasticity to the skin, heals cuts & burns, and is used in the treatment of eczema and psoriasis. It also contains natural sun-screen properties which can protect from sun burns.
Sweet Almond oil on the other hand is lubricating yet light so it makes an excellent moisturiser in all types of weather.
